Creative Blocks - Jakub #1 - Tokyo

Bring the tasks you’ve been avoiding. We spend the day in focused work blocks, being intentional about the tasks for each block. Turns out, work feels different when the entire room cares.

The structure really helped me stay focused and be very productive. The built in check-ins make it feel sustainable. It's a mix of work and socializing that I don't always find on my own.

The ritual

The room hears you,
and the work shifts.

Pre-block

Out loud: what you're about to do.

Post-block

Out loud: how it went.

That's the ritual. Two questions, asked out loud, with other people in the room. It's how the work gets real.

I spend most of my time traveling, creating content, and building things online.

Over the years, I've realized that constantly traveling and changing environments makes it harder to stay focused and maintain a routine. I'm much more productive when working around other people, which is one of the reasons I want to bring Creative Blocks to Japan.

Questions you probably have

FAQ

  • It's fine to be late, but you really get the most by joining for the full session. If you walk in while a block is running, people will be deep in it and won't look up until the next break. Slip in quietly and we'll catch up at the break.

  • Pick the slot that fits. Morning only (blocks 1 to 3), afternoon only (blocks 4 to 6), or the whole day. Book whichever lines up. Nobody tracks attendance.

  • We are. The space isn't. Sessions happen in coffeeshops, so there's ambient noise the whole time: people talking nearby, music, the espresso machine. During a block, nobody in the group is having conversations. Headphones recommended either way.

  • After the last block, we walk to a spot nearby and unwind together. We hang out and decompress. No networking pressure. No pressure to drink. Stay as long as you like.

  • Yes to both. Bring whatever you actually need. If a call comes in, take it. We're in a coffeeshop, so the background noise goes both ways. Just don't start a long conversation with the people next to you mid-block. Save that for the breaks.

  • Whatever you'd use to do your work elsewhere. Laptop, notebook, sketchpad, whatever. Headphones strongly recommended for the ambient noise. We bring the rhythm. You bring the thing you're working on.

  • Nothing. Always free. Show up, bring something real, do the work.
