About

We are heading east of the city for this one. The Scarborough Bluffs are a wall of sandy cliffs rising close to 90 metres above Lake Ontario, and the trail at the bottom runs right along the water. It is one of the best views in Toronto and most people who live here have never seen it.

The route

We follow the Scarborough Bluffs Trail (AllTrails). It is roughly 5 km out and back, almost entirely flat, and rated easy. Walking it takes about an hour and a half at a chatty pace.

After the trail we settle on Bluffers Beach for a while. Bring something to sit on if you like. Some people stay until mid afternoon and some head off earlier. Both are completely fine.

Getting there

Meet at the Green P parking lot at the very bottom of Brimley Road South, right by the marina. Parking is paid and it fills up on a sunny Saturday, so give yourself a buffer.

Coming by transit, take the 12 Kingston Rd bus to Brimley Road and walk down the hill. It is about 15 minutes downhill on the way in and a steady climb on the way out.

What to expect

No one gets left behind and there is no pace to keep up with. Come as you are, say hello to a few new people, and take in the lake.

The structure really helped me stay focused and be very productive. The built in check-ins make it feel sustainable. It's a mix of work and socializing that I don't always find on my own.

Questions you probably have

FAQ

  • Easy and nothing technical. The trail along the base of the bluffs is flat and wide, and we keep it relaxed enough to chat the whole way. If you're comfortable walking for a couple of hours, you'll be great. The only real climb is the road back up to the bus if you're coming by transit.

  • Comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, and a layer for the weather. Sunscreen and a hat help, the shoreline is exposed. A snack or a picnic is a good idea since we're out for four hours, plus something to sit on if you want to stay on the beach.

  • The Green P lot at 1 Brimley Rd S, right at the bottom of the hill by the marina. It's paid parking and it fills up early on a sunny Saturday, so leave a little extra time. If you'd rather not drive, the 12 Kingston Rd bus drops you at the top of Brimley Road, about a 15 minute walk down.

  • Absolutely! Just ask them to RSVP so we know who's joining.

  • We spend the last stretch on Bluffers Beach, and some of us grab a bite or a coffee nearby before heading back. Join for as much or as little as you'd like.
